On the 5th October, Northway signed up again to take part in one of our favourite yearly events; No Pens Day Wednesday.
The aim of the day was to encourage the skills of speaking and listening, which is an important part of the national curriculum.
For one day, the children in the school put down their pens, and all their lessons and activities had a focus on speaking and listening skills, rather than writing skills.
At Northway we understand that reading and writing are very important and valuable skills, but people are often not aware of how important speaking and listening skills are too! Schools that include speaking and listening in a planned and structured way for children in their lessons see a significant improvement in classroom involvement.
No Pens Day 2016 gave the children a chance to practice their speaking and listening skills for a whole school day; engaging in a range of exciting and unique activities planned carefully by their teachers. Take a look below at the wonderful activities that Northway got involved in.
